Henriette Willebeek Le Mair was a famous illustrator of children's books. When she and her future husband Baron Tuyll Serooskerken met the Indian mystic Hazrat Inayat Khan in 1921, they spent time with him, and were both very impressed by his personality and teachings. In 1930 she made the 20 colour illustrations for this book and chose the texts of Inayat Khan from there. The book reflects her dedication to her teacher and his students.
